Move over popcorn and soda; bring on the kobe beef sliders and a dry martini. If you?re looking for dinner and a movie, the newly opened Movie Tavern in Providence Town Center offers both under one roof. In fact, you can order, be served and consume your meal watching a feature film at Movie Tavern.
There are also dessert options, including milkshakes, ice cream, red velvet cake and brownie bottom pie. You?d expect nothing less from a theater chain whose motto is ?Movies Never Tasted So Good!?
And if you?d rather go the traditional route, fresh-popped popcorn, candy and soda are also available for purchase.
?We are so happy to be here at Providence Town Center,? said John Hersker, president of Dallas-based Movie Tavern, addressing the crowd at a VIP open house held at the theater Tuesday.
Hersker, a Hazleton native, noted that the Collegeville location is Movie Tavern?s first in Pennsylvania, ?but not our last location,? in the Keystone State. Movie Tavern has 14 other locations in nine states.
Hersker credited Brandolini Companies, Berwyn, developer of the 768,000-square-foot Providence Town Center, for being ?good neighbors? and working to get the Phase 2, or Main Street portion of the shopping center open in a timely manner.
When Movie Tavern signed its long-term lease with Brandolini Companies last year as anchor of Phase 2, it kicked off leasing for the Main Street portion of the shopping center.
The center?s first phase, which opened Oct. 11, 2009, included 140,000-square-foot anchor Wegmans and, subsequently, Dick?s Sporting Goods, Best Buy, L.A. Fitness, HomeGoods, Staples and Raymour & Flanigan, among other stores.
The Main Street portion of the development was designed to look like ?a sophisticated minicity,? said Brandolini leasing executive David Waterman in an April interview with The Mercury. This portion of the center debuted with the opening of Charming Charlie boutique in April. Champps sports bar followed suit in June.
Victor Sosa, vice president of operations for Movie Tavern Partners LLC, said Collegeville was the perfect choice for the company?s 15th location. Taking into account some rain delays to construction, Sosa said the build went smoothly.
?We?re really happy with how how this turned out and are looking forward to the future,? he said.
Projected sales figures for the Collegeville location were unavailable, according to Sibley. Continued...

Food is served with a cloth napkin and real silverware, and drinks are in real glassware.
Jamie Wendel, branch manager of the PNC Bank in Providence Town Center, was among those attending the open house Tuesday.
?I?m excited this is open because maybe now my husband might want to take me out to the movies, since there?s food involved,? Wendel joked, giving her husband, who was with her, a nudge in the arm.
Brian and Donna Smith of Collegeville were also excited to see what Movie Tavern had to offer.
?This is exactly what this Collegeville shopping center needs,? Brian Smith said. ?This and Champps are the first new businesses to open in a while? along with Charming Charlie.
The two couples both chose to see the new comedy ?Horrible Bosses? Tuesday as part of the open house.
