Baby Monitor and then some..A winner from Lorex | | Home ...

When I first heard about the newest baby monitor from one of the leading?video security specialists, Markham, ON based Lorex Technologies I knew I had to give it a try. Now since I am long past the baby at home stage I asked family friend Vanessa, mom to a toddler and a 6 month old to give it a try.

The Lorex?Live SD 3.5 Wireless Video Home Monitor consists of two parts..a camera that can operate?from a battery or power supply and a hand-held?monitor with a bright 3.5? screen?than can also be mounted in a charger stand. Notice the ring around the lens..it hides a ring of infrared LED?s?so the camera works in the dark.

The Live SD 3.5 monitor will accommodate up to 4?cameras and display then one at a time or in a split screen.?It?also has a two-way audio feature that allows you to talk to the baby or play?music built into the system.

One terrific feature is the ability to access?the video feed remotely. All you need is a free Skype account. You can connect the monitor to the home computer and set your Skype application to respond with the image from the Live SD 3.5. I set the camera up overlooking my back yard and this is what it looked like in my iPad.

It will work as well on pretty much any smartphone or Skype equipped computer. A great way for a new Mom or Dad to check in on Baby from work or while on a business trip. Vanessa also suggested another..sometimes controversial application.

The Live SD 3.5 can also be used for many other things..monitoring toddlers at play for example?and it can be?set up to monitor?the front door or as a security camera around the home. It is also equipped with a Micro SD card so it can record manually by pushing the record button or automatically when it hears a sound..a baby crying or the sound of a burglar entering the home if it is set?up as a home monitor.

I found the SD 3.5 to be well built?with good range..a bit better than the 150 ft promised. I especially liked the remote access via Skype which I feel is more secure than setting up the output as a web site as some such cameras do. Vanessa likes the simple setup and had only one complaint..she would like to see battery life for the monitor a bit longer than 4 hours. But that did not diminish her enthusiasm for the product.

The Lorex Live SD 3.5 Wireless Video Home Monitor is available from the Lorex store for $219.99 and several online retailers such as Tiger Direct and JR.com. Currently Lorex?is offering 10% off at it?s online store.
