The world of aromatherapy is a whole new experience. If you?ve had a hectic day leaving you washed out and you just need to relax and unwind, or to start the day with a little pick-me-up, there are essential oils for all occassions.
Essential oils can be mixed together or used individually depending on the reason you want to use it. Each oil has its own unique power. For example, Basil can be used as a pick-me-up, to put a spring into your step whereas Vetivert will help you to unwind and relax.
Aromatherpy works by you inhaling aromas which trigger nerves in the nose which then stimulates the brain. The aromas are taken from plants and are in the form of a volatile oil. The aromas from these oils help affect a person?s mood. You can use the oils in several forms; the easiest is in a diffuser or burner but they can also be used in the bath or as a massage, which is an excellent way to treat sore muscles.
There are four main applications and all work equally as well as each other:
Put a few drops of oil in your bath tub
Add oils to your room diffuser according to instructions
If you enjoy a massage add an essential oil to your regular massage oil
Use some oil as an air freshener
If you want to relax in your hot tub, add no more than 10 drops of oil or mixture of oils to your water and soak away the stress. If its a massage you prefer add up to 6 drops of oils to a carrier oil of your choice, Jojoba is a good all round carrier. It?s important not to use essential oils neat on your skin as they will burn. Essential oils make a great air freshener. Mix some with plain water or a combination of water and a high proof alcohol like Vodka, put into a spray bottle and there you have it. The alcohol is there to help the fragrance last longer, but don?t try drinking it! Diffusers and burners are the most popular method where you just add a few drops to the water.
If you are a candle lover then you can buy candles. They not only release the oils, but give a great glow and feel to any room. Don?t be fooled when buying them that they don?t smell very much. Their aroma is only released once lit and the wax begins to melt. Fragrant candles smell nice but don?t confuse them with aromatherapy candles, you won?t get the same relaxing efffects?
You can make your own candles too. This way not only is it fun but you can get the mix of oils that you want. Adding a few drops of essential oil to the molten wax that gathers on top of a fragrant-free candle when burning is an easy way to get the same effect.
There are hundreds of oils to choose from and even more combinations. You can ease your anxiety, and introduce happiness and peace into your household. Aromatherapy can even help with a good night?s sleep and sooth arthritic joints, all by mixing a few amazing oils! It?s that simple!
